The Director of Inspection and Trade Unions at the Ministry of Labour, Ahmed Jaffar Al Haiki told the press on Sunday that a total of 216 cases were received in 2011.

“Around 41 per cent of maids complained of not receiving their salary on time or not getting it at all. Some accused recruitment agencies in Bahrain of not following the work contracts they signed back home,” he said.

The ministry has constituted a team to investigate all these cases and deal with them individually to reach an early solution.

“Out of the total cases received this year, the team solved 206 while work is in progress on the rest of the cases,” Al Haiki said, adding that all cases are taken up seriously and action is initiated against violators.

He said in most of the cases complainants were domestic workers from the Philippines and Indonesia, and attributed the situation to the cooperation between the ministry and their embassies.
