Bahrain Summer Festival sends out message of peace

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) last week launched the seventh edition of the Bahrain Summer Festival near Sitra Mall. The month-long fun-packed event is being held at the Nakhool Garden, which was inaugurated by Baca president, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, in presence of cultural figures, reporters and families. She described the festival as a moment of joy which advocates amity and peace. "Bahrain, our homeland, is a country for all of its people", she said, stressing the importance of negating any ideas which go against the concepts of security and peace.
She said that the whole world converges to Nakhool Garden, in Sitra, as renowned artists from different countries gather to share their works.
The Baca president thanked all the sponsors of the festival, as well embassies of Egypt, France and the Philippines, hailing their contribution to enriching Bahrain's cultural life.
BPTC launches smart ticketing
The Bahrain Public Transport Company (BPTC) has introduced the GO card, a pre-paid, re-usable smart card that facilitates flexible, convenient and faster travel for public transport users. The new cards were launched a five-day campaign held at Bab Al Bahrain.
The GO card is the first smart ticketing system introduced in Bahrain and one in a series of new products and services to be gradually added to the new bus network in line with the ministry of transportation and telecommunications' (MTT) efforts to upgrade Bahrain's public transport system.
According to Mark Kipling, director of BPTC: "Smart ticketing is a vital component of this project and crucial in elevating Bahrain's public transport system, and enhancing the passenger journey. GO cards are a cheaper, user-friendly alternative to the paper tickets and we have made sure they are easily accessible to all passengers across all sectors. The purpose of the GO card is to facilitate seamless, hassle-free movement across the network at competitive rates, giving customers the option to buy and store credit for flexible journey use".
Go Cards are available as one-day passes or can store cash credit and can be used as per passenger needs and convenience. The cards need to be checked in at the start of each journey and checked out before exiting the bus using the special machines available on all buses.
MoH launches tobacco testing unit
The health ministry has recently introduced a modern specialised unit in the public health laboratories, comprising all the necessary medical supplies and equipment, for testing tobacco products and cigarettes as part of a nationwide programme to curb tobacco-related diseases, addiction, toxicity and untimely deaths caused by tobacco and to make tobacco products less attractive to the public.
The tobacco analysis unit in the public health laboratories conducts all chemical and physical testing of samples received from the tobacco combat group affiliated to the communicable diseases department in the directorate of public health.
Chemical analysis include determining the percentage of nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide resultant from cigarette smoke and toxic insecticides remainders, testing some heavy metals including cooper, zinc , magnesium, iron, lead and calcium which are some of the harmful ingredients of cigarettes which are the direct cause of lung cancer, pneumonia, severe cough, thrombosis.
