Bahrain opens Public Library in Al Quds

Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) secretary-general Dr Musafa Al Sayed has inaugurated the Bahrain Public Library in the Old City in Al Quds.
The first of its kind in the Old City since 1967, the Bahrain Public Library was opened in collaboration with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Al Quds University.
Such a kind humanitarian gesture aims at consolidating the Arab and Islamic identity in the Old City in Jerusalem and enrich systematic charitable work in Bahrain and abroad, in collaboration with the UN.
Based on a historical building run by Al Quds University, the three-storey building includes many rooms, halls and lecture hall. It includes manuscripts, books and studies about Al Quds and Palestine, literature, poetry, Islamic and Arab history, as well as history, science and technology. It will be equipped with computers and technological devices. A special website for the library was also launched.
Public transport gets a boost
Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post Affairs, Eng. Maryam Ahmed Jama'an, has announced that the new public transport network will be fully operational from August 1.
The undersecretary said that 141 buses will be operating to cover 77 per cent of Bahrain's populated areas.
She said that upon completion of the modernisation of network project, the transport network will be capable of serving 50,000 passengers a day compared to the old network capacity which amounts to only 16,000.
She said that the new transport network will reach all governorates, adding the move aims at providing safe and comfortable transport service to all citizens and residents in line with the latest international standards.
Digital empowerment programme unveiled
Five intermediate schools will start implementing the education digital empowerment project in September.
Education Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Information Technology Nawal Al Khater held a meeting with the representatives of the selected schools and briefed them on the scheme.
The session was attended by school leaders and teachers in charge of the educational digital empowerment project, in addition to IT department officials and the team tasked with His Majesty King Hamad Future Schools.
The ministry also held the first training workshop in cooperation with Microsoft.
Passwords were distributed on participants who will also be presented with Microsoft-accredited certificates.
