Bahrain extends fee exemption

MANAMA — The Bahrain cabinet on Sunday decided to freeze the monthly BD10 fee levied by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) on each expatriate worker until the end of this year.

The first suspension was announced in April for six months that comes to end this September, while the cabinet decided to further extend the grace period considering financial problems of businessmen.

The initiative was part of plans to help businessmen affected by unrest in February and March. The Labour Ministry and the LMRA have also been instructed to streamline licences for employers to fill posts fell vacant after foreign workers left Bahrain in the wake of violence.
