The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa has become the first Arab personality to win the Watch Award. The New York-based World Monuments Fund (WMF) has chosen Shaikha Mai as winner of the 2015 award edition.
The BACA president will be honoured, along with Queen Sophia of Spain in October in New York during the annual Hadrian Gala, which will be held as part of celebrations marking the WMF golden jubilee.
The prestigious award is in recognition of the dedicated work by Shaikha Mai bint to conserve human heritage.
In a statement on this occasion, she extended thanks to the WMF, hailing its dedicated efforts to preserve historic architecture and cultural heritage sites around the world.
Shaikha Mai stressed Bahrain's efforts to conserve national heritage and promote vestiges locally and internationally, highlighting the establishment of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage in Manama under the Unesco supervision.
Third batch of housing loan beneficiaries announced
 Housing Minister Bassim bin Yaqoub Al Hamer said the third batch of housing loan beneficiaries has been announced with the ministry allocating 921 loans worth more than BD34 million in 2015 alone.
The ministry announced the names of the 313 beneficiaries, including 73 repair loans, 151 purchase loans and 89 construction loans. According to applicable procedures, the bank sends an SMS message in which it notifies the beneficiary about the requisite documents to present to the bank so as to complete illegibility procedures.
The ministry has invited those whose names have appeared in the lists to visit the Customer Service Centre in Eskan Bank.
 Education ministry re-engages 52 dropouts
Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi announced that the ministry has succeeded in re-engaging 52 dropouts during the academic year 2014/2015.
The re-engagement is part of the ministry's efforts to provide free and compulsory education for all as stipulated in Articles Six and Eight of the Education Law.
The minister said the ministry provides support and assistance to re-engage the Bahraini students, who dropped out of school, for health or psychological reasons and work on addressing these reason with the related authorities in the ministry or public institutions. He said that 36 dropouts were re-enrolled during the first academic semester and 16 during the second academic semester.
The minister reiterated that these procedures are stated in the constitution and the Education Law, adding that the education ministry has established a department to follow-up on dropouts.
He said that Bahrain has been ranked among the high-performance countries for the past five years by Unesco, through providing free education for all.
