Metro Manila residents can enjoy free train rides next week, the Philippines’ Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Saturday (December 27)
The free rides will be available on Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on Tuesday (December 30) in commemoration of Rizal Day.
In a Facebook advisory posted on Saturday, the DOTr said the no-fare service will be offered in two time windows: from 7am to 9am and again from 5pm to 7pm, providing a total of four hours of free travel for all commuters.

The initiative marks the 129th death anniversary of national hero Dr Jose Rizal.
December 30 is a regular public holiday in the Philippines, observed to honour Rizal, who was executed at Bagumbayan — now known as Luneta or Rizal Park — in Manila during the Spanish colonial period.
