Philippines: At least 25 dead, 8 missing amid monsoon, tropical cyclones onslaught

The combined impact of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and three tropical cyclones has resulted in the deaths of at least 25 people across the Philippines, according to inquirer.net, citing the latest update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of 6am Friday.

Out of the total fatalities, three have been officially confirmed — one each in Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, and the Caraga region. The remaining 22 reported deaths are still subject to validation by authorities. The breakdown of unconfirmed fatalities by region are as follows:

  • Nine deaths in the National Capital Region (NCR)

  • Three deaths in Calabarzon

  • Three deaths in Western Visayas

  • Three deaths in the Negros Island Region

  • Two deaths in Northern Mindanao

  • One death in Mimaropa

  • One death in the Davao Region

The NDRRMC also reported eight people missing, with three of those cases already verified — two in Western Visayas and one in Central Luzon.
