India: 9 flights aborted, schools closed as heavy rains hit Mumbai
Airlines issue warnings to passengers, ask them to check flight status, traffic conditions before leaving for the airport

Mumbai has been beseiged by rains and flooding on Monday, August 18.
Indian news outlets have reported that the unfavourable weather conditions caused nine flights to abort landing and turn around, while one was diverted "due to poor visibility".
Airlines have taken to X to issue warnings to passengers to double check their flight schedules and leave early to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in in the city, since the areas around it are waterlogged and filled with road traffic.

CSMIA also issued a warning, advising passengers to connect with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport.

According to ANI, schools and colleges have declared a holiday due to the weather situation. State minister Ashish Shelar said that measures are being taken to ensure that children who had already left for school in the morning would be safely brought back home.
