Watch: Fair swing in India collapses in horrifying accident, killing police officer

In a tragic accident on Saturday, February 7, 2026, a swing at a fair in India collapsed mid-ride, injuring several riders and bystanders and killing a police officer.

According to ANI, the incident occured around 6pm at the Surajkund Mela in Haryana due to a "technical malfunction." The police officer who was killed in the accident — Inspector Jagdish — was on duty for security at the fair and rushed forward to help when he was struck in the head by falling parts, according to India media reports.

A video shows the horrifying moment when the swing collapsed to the ground, the screams of joy turning to those of horror. Clips from the fair are doing rounds on the Internet, raising questions of safety at the event.

According to Indian media reports, 13 people were injured in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment.

The Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Saini, said in a post on X that he was "deeply saddened by the accident," experessing his condolences to the police inspector's family.

Authorites have started an investigation to find out the cause of the incident, with forensic teams inspecting the fairground.
