Indians can update Email ID in Aadhaar app for free from July 1
The new app, unveiled earlier this year, ensures privacy of information, with biometric locks and face authentication enhancing the level of security

India's Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) announced that updating email address information related to the Aadhaar card will be free through the app, from July 1.
According to Indian news channel Economic Times, the current Rs75 charge will no longer apply for a 6-month period, from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Earlier this year, the Indian authority unveiled a redesigned Aadhaar app, announcing that the mAadhaar app would be discontinued. Launched in 2009, Aadhaar is the world’s largest biometric identity system with over 1.44 billion unique numbers. It covers 99 per cent of the adult population in the country.
The new app ensures privacy of information, with biometric locks and face authentication enhancing the level of security.
Can you update email address without visiting Aadhaar centre?
Earlier, if a user wished to change any detail relating to Aadhaar cards, they had to visit centres. The new app allows hassle-free updates, with users able to update their information from their phone.
The new Aadhaar app also has a secure QR-enabled feature, which makes identity checks easier at government offices, hospitals, hotels, and other service-related establishments, slashing paperwork (the need to take photocopies of the card) and cutting down on manual verification.
Can users add profiles of children, family?
Parents can manage the Aadhaar profiles of their children easily in the new app. It allows a user to include up to five Aadhaar profiles. However, they must all be linked to the registered mobile number.
To download the app, one can visit the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. The user has to select the preferred language, enter the mobile number, verify the OTP, and complete the face authentication. The user can also create a PIN or enable biometric unlock for quick access.
Millions of downloads
India's UIDAI said that the new Aadhaar app saw over 31 million downloads within less than five months since its launch.
In addition, nearly 4 million have updated their mobile number using the new app, and 850,000 people updated address, UIDAI said.
The Aadhaar app is designed to provide Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH) with a "convenient and privacy-first way to show, share and verify their identity," according to the Indian authority.
