A total of 365 gasoline stations in the Philippines remain closed amid rising petroleum prices brought about by the ongoing US-Israel-Iran war, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Monday.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said the number of gas stations that closed due to supply constraints went as high as 425, before going down to 369 on Sunday and declining further to 365 by Monday morning, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.

“The primary reason for the closures is the non-delivery of petroleum products and some had no stocks. Some closed down but later reopened after restocking," Tuaño said during a press briefing at Camp Crame, the national headquarters of PNP located in Quezon City.

The closures came as a result of “oil supply crunch linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East,” noted Tuaño, adding, seven cases of hoarding and profiteering have been reported by authorities. Among these, three are located in Region 5 (Bicol), two in Region 8 (Eastern Visayas), and one each in Regions 3 (Central Luzon) and 11 (Davao Region).

The Department of Energy has sought assistance from the PNP to curb fuel hoarding and profiteering, PNA noted.
