As India gears up for Republic Day celebrations later this month, certain security measures are being put in place to ensure safety of the citizens. Delhi airport will be halting flight operations for nearly two-and-a-half hours every day from January 21 to January 26, several Indian media reports said.
A government-issued Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) confirmed the temporary halting of flight operations in the capital city, which is expected to disrupt travel plans for thousands of passengers.
According to the NOTAM, the airport will remain closed from 10.20am to 12.45pm on each of these days. Over 600 flights could be affected, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.

The temporary shutdown at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is part of heightened security measures being undertaken for Republic Day, which is observed on January 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950.
This is to facilitate rehearsals of the Republic Day parade, involving aerial flypast exercises, defense displays as well as cultural processions to be held on January 26.
This comes at a time when dense fog and severe cold conditions have been hampering flight movements to and from Delhi, causing inconvenience to passengers.
