Air India flight to Delhi diverted to Riyadh after bomb threat

An Air India flight bound for New Delhi was diverted to Saudi Arabia after a bomb threat. The flight landed safely, news reports said, on Sunday.

Indian news agency ANI reported that Air India flight AI 114 from Birmingham to New Delhi had received a bomb threat and the plane was diverted to Riyadh.

A spokesperson for the airline said that the plane was inspected and all checks were completed.

"Flight AI 114 from Birmingham to Delhi on June 21 received a bomb threat and was consequently diverted to Riyadh , where it landed safely and completed security checks," the spokersperson said.

On June 13,  Air India flight AI 379 from the Thai island of Phuket headed to Delhi requested an emergency landing after a bomb threat was received on board, Phuket's airport said.

It came a day after Air India flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London's Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the carrier had cancelled several international and domestic flights due to increased aircraft checks, bad weather, and airspace restrictions. Affected flights include services between Dubai, Chennai, Delhi, Melbourne, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
