Mumbai: Barely a week after an inebriated woman lawyer, driving on the wrong lane of a freeway rammed into a taxi killing two persons, another drunk woman driver was nabbed by the police late on Monday night after much drama.

According to the police, a 42-year-old woman was stopped by a police team and asked to take a breathalyser test near Bandra. Instead of stopping the car, the woman tried to escape, but was forced to halt the vehicle.

When a traffic policewoman asked her to take the test, she allegedly abused her and refused to come out of the car. She also locked the car and refused to pull down the windows. There was high drama over the next two hours, as the police tried to convince her to come out of the car.

She, however, lit up cigarettes and smoked continuously. Worried that she could get suffocated inside the car, the police had to finally break the glass and rescue her from the vehicle.

She was found inebriated and was fined immediately and later released. The Mumbai police have stepped up their campaign against drunken driving in recent days.

After last week’s incident, in which a lady lawyer was involved in a major accident, the police have also started stopping vehicles driven by women. In the past, they would generally avoid interrogating women drivers late at night, but the authorities have decided to conduct checks even on women motorists.
