It was an unbelievable sight for police officers in Georgia when they pulled alive a newborn from underneath the backseat of a car which crashed while the mother was delivering her baby.
The woman, Crystal Graham, was in labour and was being driven to hospital by her mother just before dawn break on Monday when the SUV skid off the wet roads. Graham's mother, Krystal Jones who was driving at high speed to get her daughter to hospital, lost control of her Chevy Tahoe and crashed it into the gate of the BAPS Hindu Temple.
The accident took place on Lawrenceville Highway which was wet at the time, Daily Mail quoted Fox 5 TV reports.
Graham, who was seated in the backseat, gave birth to a baby girl as the vehicle was skidding off the highway. As it was dark, she could not find her newborn baby and thought the infant was either tossed out of the car with the impact of the crash.
Miraculously, the infant was found safe underneath backseat by three officers of the Lilburn Police Department. One of the officers, Danny Bride, was recording the entire encounter on his police body cam, asked 'Where was the baby at?'.
Jones replied: 'In her womb!' Jones said. 'She was giving birth! We don't know! I was just trying to get to the hospital'.
In the body cam footage, police can be seen struggling to find the baby in the pitch-black darkness as they scanned the surrounding area with flashlights.
Moments later, Bride is heard asking in the footage to look under the middle row seat of the SUV as he thought he may have seen a piece of the umbilical cord.
They safely pulled out the infant and rushed her to an ambulance. 'We got your baby. Looks to be fine. She's breathing and moving just fine', Bride tells the new mother.
