Visiting Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister Murad Medlisy inaugurated the embassy premises in the presence of Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Oman’s Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs.

To further cement the friendly relations, the two sides signed a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on shipping and ports, news agencies, standardisation and specifications, quality management and agriculture at the end of a four-day Omani-Algerian Joint Committee meeting.

Oman and Algeria have mooted the possibility of opening of a shipping line between the two countries, which could become the gateway for Oman to North Africa and other countries in the Mediterranean region.

Bin Alawi said that Oman and Algeria were working towards reaching bilateral agreements in economic, investment and cultural fields. He pointed out that there were clear indicators for more cooperation, especially in energy, trade and economic domains.

Medlisy said both sides support coordination in the oil and gas sector and projects in manufacture of building materials. He also stressed the importance of starting the shipping line between the Sultanate and Algeria through the Mediterranean as this will help in transporting goods through the sea.
