Kathmandu, Nepal: A bus plunged into a river in western Nepal on Thursday, killing at least four people and leaving more than 30 others missing, police said.

Police said the bus drove about 50 meters (160 feet) off the road and plunged into the Bheri River near Bhur village, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) west of the capital, Katmandu.

Four bodies have been pulled out of the river but 30 are still missing. Another 10 people survived.

The bus was completely submerged in the river and divers were on the way to help rescue.

Police are not sure how many people were on board the bus. The journey started with 45 people and others may have been picked up on the way.

Accidents in the Himalayan nation are generally blamed on poorly maintained vehicles and narrow roads.
