We're all familiar with the words that suggest one should dance like nobody's watching. As we spend another week, safely, at home, I'd say we follow the message. Small businesses with physical addresses spread all over Dubai are now offering dance lessons via their social media platforms. Did you know that even one lively session of dance can reduce anxiety and depression? Yes, it's not only a way to stay physically fit, for all ages, but is also loaded with mental health benefits. So, login from the comfort of your homes and dance away the blues and stay fit too!
The instructors at DANS believe that during the quarantine period it is important to stay fit and hence they've been sharing a series of workouts on their Instagram (@dans_me). During the last week of March, their chief choreographer kick-started the same; followed by their senior and junior instructors leading. What's on offer? Small routines of choreography on Bollywood to Michael Jackson's numbers.
Another popular session last month was hosted by Yalla Dance (@yalladancestudio). Their Instagram Live class led by their founder-director Sarthak Mahendru (@sarthakmahendru), wherein he taught his followers/students a brand new routine was watched and performed to not just by enthusiasts in the UAE but as far as London too! Even their latest class on the magic of Bollywood songs from the '90s was highly attended.
Dance lovers in the region are huge fans of choreographer/dancer fondly called Anup Sir (@bhardwaj.anup), who is a transformer at Transformers Dance Studio (@tdsdubai) and is known for his win in the Indian celebrity couple dance reality show, Nach Baliye 7. He has so far led two successful online tutorials.
And yes, if you're looking for a folksy routine then stop by at Pure Bhangra's Instagram (@purebhangra) and join the 16.4k followers, who have been enjoying their online bhangra (a traditional, energetic dance form with its origin in Punjab, India) sessions. Last Sunday, they delivered an experience on Zoom, wherein they combined Pilates with dance, which was an association with a Pilates dance studio (@thepaddxb), the franchise of celebrity fitness trainer Yasmin Karichiwala. M.A.D (Mad About Dance) too collaborated with the Pure Bhangra team, two weeks ago for their first online session (@madaboutdancedubai) and more than 100 people joined the Bollywood class.
So follow these accounts and watch the magic of dance classes delivered right into your rooms. For now, these classes are free-to-attend but do join them in the real world when the time is right and support the local talent and businesses. Until then, record your performances and stand a chance to get featured on their handles.
