Ever wondered why it's important to win someone's trust? It is an asset that will give you many opportunities to grow and thrive. Trust can be earned through consistency. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you set out to win someone's vote of confidence.
1. Mirror body language: It's also taught in negotiation skills. If you want the negotiation to work in your favour in business, it's a good idea to understand how to mirror body language and verbal language in a way the deal works for you. Once you emulate the body language subtly, you will see the other person naturally beginning to trust you. Also, nothing is more infectious than a smile; the best way you can gain someone's trust immediately is to greet them very warmly. In business, human connection often helps in cracking the deal.
2. Triadic closure: There is an 80 per cent chance you are more willing to make an effort to collaborate with someone professionally or socially if you have three or more connections in common. It's been proven scientifically and the term for it is triadic closure. If you meet someone and know at least three or more people in common, you tend to trust them more. That's why we are more prone to accept a friend request from someone with whom we have at least three friends in common.
3. Be a good listener: Listen to understand and not always to respond or come up with a solution. Nod when needed and maintain genuine and sincere eye contact. A good listener will always be considered a trusted ally simply because you have learned to listen patiently. A good listener never interrupts.
4. Validate: Do a little research and show genuine interest in other people's achievements and ask questions and celebrate success together. In validating others, you validate yourself. Having someone agree with us will automatically break down walls. Disagreeing will have opposite effect.
5: Trust them first: As Ernest Hemingway famously said, "The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them." Some of us develop trust issues as we grow older, but when you take a chance to trust someone in business or in your personal life and make sure to let them know that you trust them, they will put an extra effort not to break it. Build a bridge by trusting someone first and you will be surprised how your relationship with many people will only grow stronger.
Hope you find these tips helpful, till next week #beextraordinary.
