One can either look at having a job because it pays the rent - or one can work to be a successful professional. You can either report to work on Sunday thinking about when Saturday will arrive or you can think of ways you can provide your utmost efficiency to the organisation over the week. We often teach the organisation how to motivate and keep employees but as a working professional, if you truly want to grow, you will have to look at being an asset to your organisation and never leave an opportunity to be helpful even if "it's not [your] job" in the CV. Here's are four ways you can be an asset to your company.
Stop making excuses: In today's world, organisations or employers are trying to expand the company by keeping its employees happy and motivated, but taking advantage of that would only stop your growth. Requesting sick leave repeatedly just because your HR or team leader is kind may prove to be a winning streak now, but in the long run, your professional growth will stop. You need to find a way to give more, rather than finding ways to get away with it.
Be motivated: Your personal lifestyle is an extension of your professional growth. If you are an ambitious person who wants to succeed and climb the ladder fast, then motivate yourself to have that designation you are eyeing right from the beginning. Wake up early, work out and keep yourself fit to give your all to the organisation.
Be an asset: You are an asset to your boss or the organisation when you find ways to ensure work:life balance. The "How can I benefit your lifestyle" principle will make you an asset, and your boss and organisation would find a way to help you grow. Trust me, nobody wants to let go of an employee unless push comes to shove, as the organisation invests time and money on you till you become an asset. The first three or six months of you joining the company is when you are learning and getting used to the new organisation and once your presence is valued, you will be considered an asset to your organisation.
Be positive: Having a positive attitude, patience and a smile on your face during a hard day or when you are under pressure shows your efficiency. It's easy to crumble and give up under pressure, but patience and your ability to handle critical situations with grace will truly add to your professional image.
I hope these tips will motivate you to achieve professional success. Till next week, #beextraordinary.
