Ear-ly learning

I was looking for a pretty fit for my sister-
in-law’s ears. She’s fussy about earrings: likes them longish, but not over-the-top; blingy but not garish. This pair from Iconic, set my pulse racing. Bought it right off (for her) — it was love at first sight.

Gotta love a classic

Giving my collection of Agatha Christies a re-tread; this week, it was The Mirror Crack’d From Side to Side. Miss Marple gets caught up in a series of murders on a film set. Love it. More so because, 25 years down the line, I still have not gotten over ‘those lines’ from Tennyson’s Lady of Shallot: “Out flew the web and floated wide/ The mirror crack’d from side to side/ The curse is come upon me/ Cried the Lady of Shallot”

Divinity via dosa

Soul food, any time of the day, the dosa never falls short of pleasing my greedy taste buds. The ghee masala dosa at Aryaas on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road proved a lifeline for my hungry soul. I prepped myself first: with a dollop of mini idlis (an in-house speciality) dunked in sambar.

Black magic

An eye-pencil — or eyeliner — is a ready reckoner in any make-up kit. Or even handbag. Never underestimate the power of having to dive into the women’s room to restore a little life back in your eyes after a dull yet draining day at work. Cosmetics brand NYX has come out with its Collection Noir range — that’s right, black magic for your peepers — and I tried out the Matte Black Liner. Dramatic. One steady-handed sweep is good enough to keep me going the whole day.

Right royal blue

Woody Allen has been in and out of the news for his alleged misdemeanours, but I prefer turning a blind eye — and deaf ear — to all of that. And watch his movies instead. The man is a genius filmmaker. His Blue Jasmine — up for a bunch of Academy Awards — is bitter-sweet, comic-yet-sad… Characterisations have always been Allen’s essential hallmark — and everyone in Blue Jasmine is a glove fit. Especially Cate Blanchett. I’m in a flap — Cate vs Meryl (August: Osage County): who do I root for?

Grabbing eyeballs

Claim to fame: Until recently, the Chief Minister of Delhi; and then, back to being an aam aadmi.

The aam aadmi, who created electoral history end of last year, resigned 49 days after assuming power as Chief Minister of Delhi. Reason? The Jan Lok Pal Bill was scuttled by the state Opposition — the Congress and the BJP. “I am a very ordinary man, and I did not come here for power,” he told cheering supporters. “If I have to give up the Chief Minister’s chair a hundred times, I will....” Will this move catapult him onto the national stage? Wait and watch!
