A. Apply a pack of coconut milk, corn flour or almond powder daily, which will help lighten her skin. Also ensure she always wears sun block before she goes out. This will help her skin remain bright and light.

Q. I am 12 years old. I had a pimple on my forehead on which I applied toothpaste. It left a burn mark on my skin, and even though it has been more than nine months, the mark refuses to go. Please tell me how I can get rid of it.

— Name withheld

A. It seems like you left the toothpaste on the raw pimple overnight that may have caused the area to burn and left the mark. Apply vitamin E oil on the mark to lighten it.

Q. The skin on my face and arms is darker than the rest of my body. Please help me get back to my fairer self. I’ve tried whitening creams, but they haven’t worked. Can you suggest something effective and economical?

— Farzana

A. You can lighten the arms by applying ripe strawberry puree — it has whitening properties. Done regularly, it will make your skin light and bright.

Q. My hair has been falling a lot lately, and I have dandruff too. I’ve been hunting for rosemary oil, but have had no luck so far. Help! — Sarla

A. Rosemary oil is available at Life pharmacies. Massage a mixture of aloe vera gel and a few drops of lemon juice on your scalp and face. Rinse with cold water. You can apply this on the face everyday, and twice a week on the hair.

Q. I am a 12-year-old girl with really long hair. The problem is that it is floppy, falls a lot, is unmanageable and rough — especially at the ends. Also, I have tanned and oily skin, and I want to avoid acne since my skin has started to break out.

— Safa

A. Take two tablespoons of aloe vera gel, add one tablespoon of lemon juice, massage into scalp and comb through. Rinse your hair an hour later, and use a baby shampoo to wash your hair; doing this thrice a week will help solve the problem. You can also massage this treatment on your face, as aloe vera is an excellent cleanser, and when mixed with lemon juice lightens and shrinks the pores, and reduces the oiliness of the skin. Do this every alternate day, but avoid using hot water, as it activates the natural oils of the skin, making the face greasy.
