All that Glitters
Indian jewellery brand Bhima inaugurated its first store in Karama Centre, Dubai, last weekend in the presence of popular Malayali actor Nivin Pauly. The brand's first store displays bridal jewellery, antique and temple jewellery, lightweight and kids jewellery, daily wear ornaments and jewellery for men, apart from its signature diamond collection.
"We are delighted to bring Bhima to our overseas customers. Along with our promise of purity and trust, we have invested in our people to offer you a personal buying experience" said Rashmi Vinod, director of Bhima Jewellers.
Bhima plans to open new outlets shortly in the other Emirates including Sharjah and Ajman in UAE.

The 'Baby Arabia' programme is a language class for mothers and toddlers who wish to learn French or Arabic through play. The fun-filled classes, for children between the ages of six months to three years, use music, dance and motor skills to help them naturally learn languages. Classes will be held on Thursdays at 10am. The other package on offer is the 'Groovy Kids Yoga' which helps instil healthy habits in kids, starting with yoga poses and postures to help with strength, flexibility and coordination. Yoga lessons will be held on Tuesdays at 3pm. Then there's 'Dress Up Fun', which is basically a whole lot of costumed fun for kids, allowing them to dress up as their favourite fairytale characters or even as prototypes of their aspiring professions. Caboodle is offering drop-n-shop services so parents can they browse the mall and have some time to themselves.

Are you the UAE's Next Big Star?
More than 500 budding singers, dancers and actors are currently taking part at the UAE Talent Show at Lulu Mall, Fujairah. While the singers and dancers are already moving on to the next stages, the acting auditions will take place between April 26-29, showcasing some of the best talent in the UAE.
The quarter-finals will be held on May 6 and the semis on May 7, while the final round of judging will take place on May 8. Participants will not only get to prove their mettle on stage, they will also have the chance to win handsome prizes or be involved in some promising assignments in line with their talents.

The Beauty of Inscriptions
The Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, is underway at Wafi Mall, and will feature over 70 workshops, for various age-groups, for those interested in learning about the history of the art form and its various forms of expression, styles and historical and social contexts.
The workshops, which will be held until April 27, are being led by well-known Arabic calligraphy experts, which will also be translated into English. They will cover diverse topics including how to draw paintings using Arabic letters and words, Thulth Jali, illumination, in-line workshop, gold leaf preparation and its application on patterns, materialising Arabic script, principles of gilding art, and specialised sessions on Kufic, Roqa'a and Diwani typography.
The month-long exhibition, which runs till May 15, is currently showcasing a selection of works from the collection of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Another highlight of the exhibition is the display of sections of the Holy Quran of King Hussein bin Talal that features engravings in Maliki Islamic style calligraphy (in coordination with Tiba Traditional Islamic Book Arts in Jordan).

 A Date with an Astronaut
Café Scientifique Dubai, in association with SciFest Dubai, is hosting NASA astronaut Dr Donald Thomas on April 30, giving you the chance of a lifetime to talk to an astronaut in the flesh! Selected by NASA in January 1990, Dr Thomas became an astronaut in July 1991. He was CAPCOM (spacecraft communicator) for Shuttle missions STS-47, 52 and 53. In his last assignment he served as the International Space Station Program Scientist overseeing NASA experiments performed on the ISS. He'll be talking about life in space, the difficulties of training to be an astronaut, and the future of space exploration.
The Café Scientifique event will take place between 6:30-7:30pm at the Urban Bistro in Media City, and costs Dh100 per person, including snacks.
