'If you want to find real competition, look at a mirror'
In conversation with Elio Moussallem, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner, Maison JE Concept Store and Menswear line
The best thing you've ever bought yourself and why?
Start Your Own Business, Sixth Edition. This book highlighted some important points that I took under consideration when making my business plans. When you become an entrepreneur, it's important to learn new ways to run a business.
One life lesson you want to share.
If you want to find real competition, just look in the mirror. After a while, you'll see your rivals scrambling for second place.
What advice would you give your younger self, if you could?
I would advise my younger self to be less emotional.
Emotions sometimes lead us to make decisions we would not otherwise make.
If you could move to any country or place in the world, which one would it be?
I love Dubai and London as they are both big cities and development is a part of their daily routine. As leaders in commerce, real estate, education and business, these cities give individuals the opportunity to think bigger and empower themselves, and for businesses to thrive.
Favourite fictional character of all time - and why.
Sherlock Holmes, as he is a deductive genius, using his analytical mind for good.
A superpower you wish you had?
To be stronger than an MMA fighter! It's an incredible sport that has the ability to relieve stress, especially after a hectic day in the fashion business.
If you were head of your country, what is the first thing you'd do?
As the head of Lebanon, I would support 'made in Lebanon' brands and make the country a hub of production and tourism. Lebanon is already known as an expert in production, especially in the fashion industry, and this can enhance the economy and create labour opportunities as well.
The top item on your wish list?
To develop my brand in such a manner that Maison JE menswear has a presence at the Milano Fashion Week.
