'Extinction of animals is my greatest fear': Hitesh Thawani

Hitesh Thawani, managing director of Precious Paws, on why he'd love to trade lives with Elon Musk and pet ownership could do with some more regulation

What is your best childhood memory?
When we travelled together as a family to the US when I was four years old. I had the chance to visit Disneyland and witness my favourite cartoon characters come to life. The whole idea of leaving Dubai and going on a vacation was extremely exciting to me at the time!

If you could move to any place in the world, what place would that be?
It would definitely be New Zealand, considering it is one of the most pet-friendly countries in the world. They have some of the best food, fantastic weather and very scenic landscapes.

The biggest learning point or experience in your life.
When we decided to expand the business, and open a second outlet. I believed it would be a simple process, seeing as we already have one operational outlet - but it ended up really challenging me to learn more than I already knew and push harder to make it a reality.

What is the one skill you'd love to learn - and why?
I'd love to learn the guitar, as it fascinates me to see artists express their talent almost anywhere, be it on the streets or in a theatrical setup.

What advice would you give your younger self, if you could?
Travel as much as you can and don't forget to document every bit of it - not least because travelling inspires and transforms you into a better version of yourself.

If you could go back to any era in time or witness any major event in history, which one would it be, and why?
I would want to go back to World War times, to understand the science and technology that was developed during that period that continues to be important to us today.

Your greatest fear.
Extinction of animals would be my greatest fear. I think we all are responsible for protecting animals for the sake of our own existence.

If you could trade lives with one person for an entire day, who would it be and why?
I would like to trade lives with Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX. He is truly a visionary who is working towards making our world a better place.

Favourite movie character of all time - and why.
Amar (Aamir Khan) from the Hindi movie Andaz Apna Apna. The character is so full of life and happy-go-lucky, which is something I can relate to myself.

If you were President of your country, what is the first thing you'd do?
I would implement a law where people cannot buy pets; instead, they can only adopt them. I believe that pets should not come with a price tag.
