'Charlotte Brontë's Villette is extremely powerful in all its modesty'

Author of Aloft on Wings of Grit, Janhavi Malhotra, lists out her favourite reads

What books are you reading?
Recently, I picked up Pandeymonium by Piyush Pandey. It is extremely interesting to read about what makes such a brilliant mind tick and where his ideas come from!
A book that changed your life?
When I was 12 years old, I found a copy of Body Language by Allan Pease at a book sale and read it cover to cover. That is when I decided that I wanted to pursue an education and, eventually, a career in the behavioural sciences. I went on to major in psychology and do my masters in Organisational Psychiatry and Psychology.
When I was in college, Dying To Be Me by Anita Moorjani gained a great deal of popularity. The way she spoke of freeing herself from the shackles of fear, negativity and, in turn, cancer, struck a chord as I was also recovering from lymphoma at the time.
What kind of non-fiction do you prefer to read?
I love reading about different aspects of psychology and management, the information from which can be applied within the workplace and other real-time scenarios. Crucial Conversations by Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Al Switzler and Ron McMillan is one of my favourites which elucidates upon talking techniques when the stakes are high. My all-time favorite author in this genre is Dr. Adrian Furnham, who has written multiple
masterpieces on organisational psychology.
One book you think is underrated?
Villette, one of Charlotte Brontë's lesser known works, is beautifully woven and paints the picture of a whirlwind of emotions. It is extremely powerful, in all its modesty.
