Which is your favourite book and why?
Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow written by Yuval Noah Harari. It is a book that examines what might happen to the world when old myths are coupled with new God-like technologies, such as artificial intelligence and genetic engineering.
What are the books that shaped your outlook and changed your life?
I can name three! The Richest Man in Babylon by George Samuel Clason reveals the secrets to finding personal wealth. Secondly, The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli, which is an eminently quotable 16th-century treatise on the nature of rulers. Lastly, The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene, which is all about gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.
Most memorable literary character (and why)?
Queen Elizabeth I of England. Not a literary character but an inspiration to the world of literature all the same. In my eyes, she is one of the greatest monarchs in history. She was never supposed to be queen and yet she reigned for 44 years.
A book you think is underrated (and why)?
A Conspiracy of Stars by Olivia A. Cole. I grabbed the book off a shelf at a beach boutique hotel in Thailand. It is great entertainment, presenting the euphoria of receiving a desired wish and the reality of human ego and power.
Your favourite book quote.
"We know what we are, but know not what we may be." - William Shakespeare, Hamlet
