This New Year, instead of setting unrealistic goals for yourself, promise to take small steps towards better health. Don't just attack on fad or any typical weight loss diets, instead go for doable resolutions to have a healthier 2020. These baby steps would require less effort, will be much easier to follow and would sustain for a longer time.
Let's focus on small steps towards a healthier body.

. Promise to include one new healthy food every month. Start by introducing tofu or Brussel sprouts. After introducing it, try to include the new food at least thrice a week until you start enjoying it.

. Add one green food everyday in your diet in any one meal at least. It can be spinach, kale or lettuce.

. Make sure to go outdoor once in a week, like a beach or a park, where one can have a run or just play. Spend some active family time instead of just going out for dinner or a movie.

. When in a party, keep your hands and mouth busy with a glass of juice or water to prevent unwanted nibbles. Try to enjoy the company of your family and friends instead of reaching out for delicacies.

. Get into a habit of having one fruit per day. Introduce one new fruit per month. This way, by the end of the year, you will be relishing a delicious mixed fruit bowl.

. Add two glasses of water each day to what you are drinking presently (if it's less than three litres per day). This will help increase the overall intake of water and keep you hydrated. Add a flavour to your water like fennel, ginger, basil, lemon or cumin seeds.

. Always make a list before going for shopping. Never shop for grocery when you are hungry.

. Include probiotics at least once a week in your diet. This can be done simply by grabbing a probiotic yoghurt on your way. Or you could add miso and tempeh in your meal. One can also have kefir, a fermented milk drink. This will not only improve your immunity but also your gut health.

. Include minimum one Omega 3 fatty acid-rich food in your diet every day. It can be fatty fish like salmon in the main meal or a one spoon of flax seeds, pumpkin seeds or walnuts to munch. This will help improve your heart health.

. Think for yourself and don't take your body for granted. Always think positive.

. Lastly, take one big step and do one positive thing for yourself like quit smoking or join a gym or join a meditation club. You could also join a fitness freak buddy group, run a marathon or just simply go for trampoline jumping.
