The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology's (NCMS) weather channel has been quietly up on YouTube since Tuesday. According to the NCMS, the much-anticipated weather channel, which is being "soft launched", will be tested live to check for technical flaws.
A Met office representative also told Khaleej Times that the date for the official launch is not yet fixed for the bilingual channel. He added the Arabic version will be launched first, and the English one will be released on a later date.
The weather channel, first in the region, announced by the NCMS last June was initially planned to be launched during the holy month of Ramadan.
A new weather broadcast studio has been set up at the NCMS headquarters for daily weather reports and updates.
Intended to be much more than weather reports, the new weather channel has seven interactive sections.
