The National Center of Meteorlogy and Seismology said clouds from Saudi Arabia are moving to the UAE and rains can be expected over the next two days. ‘‘Due to clouds moving from the centre and south of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia toward the United Arab Emirates, and the area is under the affect of surface trough associated with the upper air trough.’’

The country will experience unstable weather conditions over the next three days at least. Scattered rains across the country have been forecast. ‘‘Winds will be moderate to fresh in general, causing blowing dust and may reduce the horizontal visibility over some areas at times,” the NCMS said.

Saudi Warning

Meanwhile, the Saudi Interior Ministry has asked various affiliated agencies to gear up for the rain. Schools were closed in the Kingdom and football matches were cancelled as a result of the heavy downpour on Thursday.

Rains this year are expected to be above average over the region. Six people died and several were injured in the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday.

Saudi Press Agency quoted weather experts as saying that humidity levels over the Arabian Sea and Sudan are causing the wet spell.

Riyadh Civil Defence media spokesman Captain Mohammed Al Hammadi said the capital is experiencing rains.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior has embarked on an emergency plan, and asked the governors of the provinces and the heads of civil defence committees to be on high alert round the clock.
