Police and the civil defencehave warned people returning home during rush hour tonight to use caution and be attentive after an intense rainfall lashed variousparts of the country today.
According to civil defence sources, the heavy rains have turned most of the internal roads and open sand spaces into pools of water.
“Crocodiles of vehicles are seen on most roads of the emirates, and traffic snarls are everywhere. Some houses, particularly at lower areas, are reportedly flooded with non-stop rains.”
Residents and motorists have been warned weather conditions may cause a drop in visibility and roads may become slippery.
Dozens of employees were could not reach work in the morning as a result of roads being cut off by the rains. “The situation is expected to be worse with employees returning home in the evening.”
National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), bulletin forecast cloudy weather on Monday morning, with scattered rain, especially over the northern and the eastern areas.
According to the NCMS, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in general, especially over the western, coastal, northern areas and the islands, with a chance of some occasional rainfall from time to time. Fresh winds in general, becoming strong at times over the sea, especially in case of cloud activity, and causing blowing dust/sand with poor visibility at times over the exposed areas. Sea will be moderate in general but may turn rough at times.
