Youngster Set for 550km Walk
in Charity Initiative
DUBAI - After climbing the steps in 100 high rise towers in Dubai in 2008, walking across all seven emirates in 2009 and now the initiative to cross 550km of the Empty Quarter by foot, Jalal Majid bin Thaneya still believes this is only the minimum he can do to raise awareness for special needs children.

The twenty three year old student began his journey from the Senses Centre in Jumeirah on 26 December at 8:30 am, trekking through harsh terrain to reach the town of Um Hism in the Empty Quarter in 20 days as part of an initiative to raise donations for children with physical and cognitive disabilities.
“As a civilised nation, we are all responsible for ensuring that every member of our society lives a fruitful life and has the same opportunities as the rest of us,” Bin Thaneya, said.
“I call upon all individuals, residents and citizens of this nation to donate for the success of this worthy cause. It is incumbent upon us to help those who require it the most.”
The Dubai Media City (DMC) announced that it will support Thaneya’s endeavour this year and help create the awareness for his cause.
“Bin Thaneya deserves our relentless support in his mission and I am confident he will emerge as a role model for others,” Mohammed Abdullah, Executive Director, DMC, said.
A vehicle has been organised to monitor Bin Thaneya trek and meet every 40 kilometres with food supplies and other essentials.
