The body of an Ajman worker believed to have died of a heat-related brain haemorrhage remains in the morgue 13 days after his death.
The worker - L.C. - was one of 220 employees of Essa Engineering and Marine Services LLC who have gone without food and other essential supplies for the last six months.
The company's public relations officer, Obaid Mohammed, said that all necessary legal procedures for the repatriation of the body had been completed and the Indian consulate notified, but the company was unable to put together the required funds.
"The company is bankrupt and they have not been able to procure the funds to repatriate L.C's body. It will cost approximately Dh11,000 and there needs to be a person to accompany the body to India," he noted.
Dubai and Sharjah residents have rushed to the aid of the embattled workers, delivering food and other supplies to help them get through the coming months.
