Whale Found Dead off UAQ
UMM AL QUWAIN - A 30-foot-long whale that might have been hit by a ship was found dead near Al Senya Island off Umm Al Quwain on Monday.

Dr Ibrahim Abdullah Jamali, Director of the Umm Al Quwain Marine Creatures Research Centre, ordered to bury the whale out of concern that it might pollute the environment.
“The whale could have been smashed by a vessel in the high sea four or five days ago which led to its death,” said Jamali, adding that strong winds and sea current had pushed the whale towards the UAQ coast.

It could be seen floating in the sea from the Marine Creatures Research Centre building. He said he had consulted with Abdullkarim Mohamad, chairman of Umm Al Quwain Fishermen Association, about tugging the whale to Al Senya Island either by the municipality or coast guards and bury it there.
Al Senya Island is the nearest the whale could be brought.
Abdullkarim said that a taskforce assigned by the Health Department on the instructions by the UAQ Municipality Director is going to handle the situation and dispose of the carcass scientifically by burying it or setting it on fire or decomposing it by using chemical substances.
He said several parts of the whale have already started decomposing.
