UAE weather: Red alert issued for thick fog on first day of Ramadan; low of 9ºC expected

The weather today will be fair to partly cloudy, according to a forecast by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Light to moderate Southeasterly to Northeasterly winds are set to blow, freshening at times, with a speed of 10–25, reaching 35kmph.

The Met issued red and yellow alerts for thick fog, warning residents of a drop in horizontal visibility in some areas. The authority said it may drop even further at times over some western areas from 9.30pm on Tuesday until 10am on Wednesday.

With faithful across the country observing the first day of Ramadan under such weather conditions, Dubai Police urged drivers to give themselves enough time to arrive at their destination by following safe driving guidelines. This helps ensure a safer road environment for everyone throughout the holy month.

Meanwhile, temperatures across internal areas of the UAE will rise to a high of 32ºC and drop to a low of 9ºC in these regions.

In the big cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, the mercury will rise to a high of 28ºC, 28ºC and 29ºC, while dipping to a low of 19ºC, 18ºC and 16ºC respectively.

It will be humid by night and Thursday morning with a probability of fog or mist formation over some internal western areas. Levels will range from 30 to 85 per cent in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. 

Conditions at sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman sea.
