Cumulonimbus clouds bring heavy showers to Mahdah, with potential weather changes likely during the noon and afternoon hours

Several areas of the UAE experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday, May 11, as unstable weather patterns moved across the region.

The eastern and central parts of the country saw the most significant activity, with videos posted by weather tracking account Storm Centre capturing the scenes.

One of the videos shows a heavy downpour in Al Madam, located in Sharjah’s central region. Rain can be seen lashing against a car windshield, significantly reducing visibility.

Some areas of the UAE experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday, May 10.

Earlier in the day, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had forecast the possibility of convective cloud formation over eastern areas between 1pm and 7pm. The NCM warned that such cloud activity could bring rainfall and fresh winds reaching up to 40kmph. Blowing dust is also expected in affected regions, potentially reducing visibility at times.

Thunderstorms are also expected to affect the central region of the UAE on Sunday, with potential weather changes likely during the noon and afternoon hours.

According to Sharjah Planetarium, cumulonimbus cloud formation has been observed south of Hatta, bringing heavy rainfall to Mahdah, northern Oman. The forecast suggested continued unsettled weather anticipated in areas influenced by these storm systems.

A video posted by the weather-related social media account Storm Centre showed steady rain pouring down in Mahdah. The typically dry and arid mountainous region looked drenched. Watch the clip below:

Today's weather

Overall, conditions will be fair to partly cloudy today. Cloud formation is expected eastward, with a chance of convective clouds over the mountains by the afternoon, potentially leading to additional rainfall. Temperatures are on a gradual rise.

Humidity will increase overnight and into Monday morning, especially in coastal areas, with a chance of mist formation, particularly in western regions. Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally freshening. Sea conditions will remain slight in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.
