You might want to bundle up if you're heading out today, as the UAE saw temperatures as low as 0.2ºC in Jebel Jais early this morning.

The National Centre of Meteorology confirmed that the lowest temperature today was 0.2ºC, recorded at 5.45am.

The UAE has been seeing a dip in temperatures as it experiences its coldest winter days this season. The country's Meteorological Department had earlier confirmed that a cold spell would affect the nation in the second half of January.

Below are the five lowest temperatures the nation saw early today morning:

AreaTemperatureTime recorded
Jais Mountain0.2C05.45am
Mebreh Mountain3.1C5.15am
Jabal Al Rahba3.2C6.45am
Raknah4C7.15am
Hafeet Mountain6.7C5.30am

This isn't the first time the UAE has seen such a chill. In 2021, the nation saw two days of sub-zero temperatures in some areas. With Raknah recording a low of -1.7ºC.

However, that is nowhere close to the country's lowest temperature ever recorded — a freezing -5.7°C. On February 3, 2017, temperatures on Ras Al Khaimah's Jebel Jais mountain, the country's highest peak, dipped to a new low.

As per the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the next lowest temperature in the country's history was on February 4 in the same year when the mercury dipped on the mountain cluster to -3℃.

The top of the Jais Mountain cluster – at a height of 5,700 feet – was even blanketed with snow, extending more than five kilometres on January 24, 2009.
