As the summer heat continues to intensify across the UAE, rain showers in some parts of the country brought a welcome relief for the residents.

Video clips shared by Storm Centre on Saturday (August 9) captured the scene in Fujairah and other parts of the eastern coast, where rain fell steadily along the roads, raindrops blurring the view through car windshields. Pavements and scattered pebbles glistened under the falling rain beside parked vehicles, a refreshing contrast to the usual dry heat.

The skies were overcast, casting a moody shade of gray across the long stretches of road. While the conditions appeared gloomy, the cooler air and wet streets stood in sharp contrast to the country’s prevailing heat.

Later in the afternoon, videos shared online showed heavy rains in Abu Dhabi's Al Ain. The emirate's police force called on motorists to exercise caution due to the rainy weather and to follow the changing speed limits displayed on electronic information boards.

Take a look:

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had earlier predicted rainfall in certain parts of the country. However, it also warned that temperatures could still soar to 48ºC in some areas — a reminder that despite the shower, the summer heat remains unrelenting.

Overall, conditions will be fair to partly cloudy in general. Southeasterly to northeasterly winds will shift from light to moderate and will be freshening at times during daytime. Gusts will be gentle, with a speed of 10kmph to 25kmph but may pick up and reaching 40kmph and cause blowing dust.

Summer rains in UAE

While summer rain may seem surprising to some, meteorologists say it's not entirely uncommon in the UAE.

But while the occasional rain during the season brings respite, residents still need to be careful and take serious precautions to prioritise their health and safety.

Summer in the UAE isn't just uncomfortable — it can be dangerous. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to serious health conditions, especially for vulnerable groups like the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.
