Watch: Heavy showers hit Al Ain; Fujairah gets intermittent drizzles

Some UAE residents are having a rain-soaked start to their weekend as several areas in the the country witnessed showers on Friday, accompanied by overcast skies and drop in temperatures.

The UAE's National Center of Meteorology had predicted that the weather would be partly cloudy on Friday, with a chance of some cumulus clouds forming in the east and south, accompanied by rain in the afternoon.

UAE-based rain-chasing account Storm Centre shared videos of moderate to heavy showers in some parts of the country.

Videos shared on X showed showers going from light drizzle to heavy downpour on Khatm Al Shiklah Road and other parts of Al Ain.

They had earlier shared visuals of cloudy weather over Fujairah with intermittent drizzles.

Due to the rain, Abu Dhabi Police activated the speed reduction system on several roads. Speed was reduced to 80Km/h on Sweihan-Nahel road, Al Khaznah-Remah road, Umm Al Oush-Al Razeen road and Al Faya-Al Khatim road, among others.

As residents count down to the end of another long, hot UAE summer, the country has continued to experience isolated showers in some parts recently. The rainfall is expected to be mild to moderate, with heavy rain possible at times in isolated areas, particularly across the eastern and southern parts of the UAE.
