UAE weather: Red, yellow alerts issued for fog; temperatures to rise

Residents in the UAE can expect rainfall in some parts of the country on Friday, July 25, according to the forecast by the met department.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said in its bulletin that skies will be partly cloudy, with hazy conditions at times. There is a chance of convective cloud formation in the east, extending to some internal areas and potentially bringing rainfall, along with a rise in temperatures.

Conditions are likely to get humid by night and Saturday morning over some western coastal areas with a probability of mist formation.

There will be light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, freshening at times during daytime, causing blowing dust, with a speed of 10kmph and 25kmph, reaching 40kmph.

Authorities have issued a red and yellow alert for fog in the areas marked in the map below:

The alert says that there will be "fog formation with a deterioration in horizontal visibility".

The sea conditions will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

Temperatures in Abu Dhabi are expected to witness a high of 43°C and a low of 32°C, while Dubai will see a high of 44°C and a low of 32°C.

Sharjah will likely see a high of 44°C and a low of 31°C.

Weather over the weekend

The NCM also forecast unstable weather conditions across parts of country over the coming weekend, as an extension of surface and upper-air low pressure systems, coupled with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

The met department forecasts the formation of rainy clouds from Friday, July 25, to Monday, July 28, particularly over eastern, southern, and some inland areas. These clouds may bring moderate to heavy rain in some areas, along with possible thunder and strong winds.

Experts say these patterns are expected to continue intermittently over the next few days — with a more active system forecast around July 25-26.

Dr Ahmed Habib, a veteran meteorologist with the NCM, had earlier told the Khaleej Times that the recent weather activity is linked to a combination of atmospheric systems, including a low-pressure system moving in from the east, moisture-laden air from the Arabian Sea, and the northward shift of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
