UAE weather: Red, yellow alerts issued for fog; chance of rain in some areas

UAE residents can expect some respite from the intense summer heat on Sunday (July 20), as rain is likely in parts of the country, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Red and yellow alerts of fog were issued by the met authority for the early morning hours in parts of Abu Dhabi. The emirate's police advised motorists to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during the fog and follow reduced speed limits displayed on electronic information boards. Overall, conditions will be fair to partly cloudy, with a probability of some convective clouds formation associated with rainfall, especially in the easter and southern areas.

However, despite the possibility of showers in some areas, temperatures will remain high across much of the country. The mercury is expected to reach a scorching 49ºC in Abu Dhabi’s Gasyoura and Mezaira. Dubai is forecast to hit 43ºC, while Abu Dhabi will see highs of 44ºC.

Winds will shift from southeasterly to northwesterly, remaining light to moderate at speeds of 10–25kmph, but could reach up to 40kmph, stirring blowing dust in some areas.

Gusts are expected to be freshening at times during daytime.

The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.
