Dubai rains: 'Don't use sewage drains for rainwater', authority says in safety guidelines

Dubai Municipality has issued nine guidelines for residents as the nation encounters unstable weather conditions

The UAE has been experiencing unstable weather conditions causing rainfall and strong gusts of wind to blow across the country.

While authorities across the country have repeatedly issued advisories informing residents of their readiness to deal with the upcoming conditions, they have also asked residents to remain cautious.

Dubai Municipality has urged residents to keep these safety guidelines in mind when dealing with the changing weather conditions and in case of rainfall.

Here are the nine tips the authority has issued:

  1. Ensure all electrical connections in your home or building are properly secured and insulated

  2. Keep internal rain drains in your home or building clean and unobstructed

  3. Use designated rainwater drains to dispose of accumulated rainwater safely

  4. Avoid opening or using sewage drains to drain rainwater

  5. Firmly secure outdoor furniture at home or in the building

  6. Remove tools, equipment, and materials that could be blown away from balconies or rooftops

  7. Avoid walking near trees, unstable signs, temporary fences, or construction sites

  8. Stay away from areas with water accumulation and avoid walking through them

  9. Report any water accumulation or fallen trees by calling 800900 or via WhatsApp

The country is expected to deal with unstable weather conditions till December 19. Residents can expect scattered showers in different parts of the country throughout the next few days.
