Reduced visibility, slippery roads, and water accumulation increase the risk of accidents and traffic disruptions

Motorists have been urged to exercise extra caution on Dubai’s roads as periods of unstable weather and rainfall continue to affect visibility and driving conditions. Dubai Police said reduced visibility, slippery roads, and water accumulation increase the risk of accidents and traffic disruptions, calling on drivers to strictly follow speed limits, maintain safe distances, and remain alert at all times.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, warned against risky behaviour behind the wheel, including the use of mobile phones or filming while driving, noting that such actions significantly raise the likelihood of collisions during adverse weather.
The warning comes as UAE authorities issued multiple weather alerts this week, cautioning residents about unstable conditions, including rainfall, strong winds and reduced visibility across several parts of the country.

On Wednesday morning, residents across the UAE woke up to hazy skies and blowing dust, with visibility dropping sharply in some areas as strong, dusty winds swept through the country.
He said authorities would take firm action against reckless driving, dangerous stunts and behaviour that threatens public safety, stressing that traffic laws will be enforced through fines, black points and vehicle impoundment where necessary.
Drivers were also advised to check their vehicles before setting off, particularly tyres, brakes, windscreen wipers and lights. Hazard lights should be used only in emergencies, and broken-down vehicles should be moved off the road where possible to avoid obstructing traffic or causing further incidents.
Police urged motorists to remain especially cautious on external roads, bends and low-lying areas where water may collect, and to adopt defensive driving by anticipating sudden stops or vehicles entering from side openings.
A strong warning was also issued against approaching valleys, flood-prone areas, water channels or dams during rainfall, or gathering to film such scenes, due to the serious risks involved. Authorities said following official guidance during severe weather helps protect lives and property and reflects a shared sense of responsibility across the community.
