UAE weather: Heavy rain, cloudy sky, temperatures to drop to 10°C

The winds will be light to moderate in speed and active to strong at times with dust-raising clouds

Residents across the UAE woke up to a cold and damp morning as rains poured in some areas on Sunday, December 14. According to a forecast by the UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), rainfall is expected over scattered areas, especially coastal and northern parts.

The day will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with some cumulus clouds, accompanied by a pleasant drop in temperatures as most residents enjoy their weekend and head out for outdoor activities. The mercury is set to drop to a low of 10ºC in some internal and mountain regions.

The UAE is set to experience unstable weather during this week, with temperatures dipping to 13ºC. The NCM issued an advisory earlier, urging members of the public to follow guidelines as the country goes through this period.

The Met issued orange and yellow alerts, warning residents of hazardous weather and to be on the lookout in case of outdoor activities. Showers are expected to continue until 6pm today.

The centre revealed that winds will be light to moderate in speed and active to strong at times with dust-raising clouds, and their movement will be southeasterly to northwesterly, at a speed of 10kmph to 25kmph, reaching up to 45kmph.

Maximum temperature in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will be 29°C, while Dubai will see a high of 29°C. Mercury will drop to 19°C in Abu Dhabi, 20°C in Dubai and 17°C in Sharjah.

The highest temperature recorded over the country on Saturday was 32.3°C in Bada Dafas (Al Dhafrah Region) at 2pm.

The waves in the Arabian Gulf will be light to moderate, occasionally becoming rough with the clouds. The first high tide will occur at 09.02am and the second at 8.53pm. The first low tide will occur at 3.57pm and the second at 2.25am. In the Oman Sea, the waves will be light to moderate.

The authority issued a yellow alert for rough sea in the Arabian Gulf, with wave height expected to reach 7ft especially with cloud activity, from 3.40am until 8pm.
