UAE weather: Dangerous drop in visibility due to fog; rain likely in some parts

The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology warned residents of fog formation late on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, leading to a significant deterioration in horizontal visibility that may drop to zero at times over some coastal and inland areas.

The centre said the fog is expected between 00:30 and 10:00 on Thursday, urging motorists and road users to exercise more caution and follow traffic safety guidelines due to the severe reduction in visibility associated with these conditions.

The Abu Dhabi Police had called on motorists to exerise caution due to reduced visibility during the fog. They also activated speed reduction on some roads, including Al Taf road (Seih Al Tuwaisa-Al Saad Bridge) and Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road (Al Faya Bridge-Al Muhairi Tunnel).

The NCM issued red and yellow alerts for fog in some parts of the country on Thursday morning.

Weather in the UAE is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy on Thursday. Low clouds may form over islands and western regions. Light rain is possible, especially overnight and into Friday morning.

Humidity is expected to increase overnight and early Friday in some inland areas. Winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast to northwest at 10-20 km/h, occasionally reaching 30 km/h.

Dubai is expected to reach a maximum temperature of 29°C and a minimum of 22°C on Thursday. Humidity will range from 35 per cent to 85 per cent. Abu Dhabi will be slightly cooler, with a maximum of 29°C and a minimum of 20°C. Humidity levels there will also range from 35 per cent to 85 per cent.

UAE woke up to a chilly morning on Wednesday, with the lowest temperature recorded at 9°C in Raknah (Al Ain) at 07:00, continuing a trend of noticeably cooler nights. Over the past few days, several internal areas have dipped below 8°C, signalling that winter has truly arrived in the UAE.
