A huge fire broke out at the fruit and vegetable market in Mina Zayed at dawn on Sunday morning. The fire damaged a total of 16 shops, however civil defense officials said that no lives were lost.

Colonel Abdullah Rashid Al Zaabi, Alternate General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi, said that officials were informed of the fire at 5:00 am in the morning.
The fire, which broke out at the Zayed Port, required four of the civil defense teams to extinguish it and to prevent it from spreading to other shops.
The port is famous for its fresh fruits and vegetables that are brought in to the Capital daily, its large pet store and the flower and gardening market.
The Civil Defense teams rapidly sought to stop the fire, as directed by Major General Jassim Al Marzouki, General Civil Commander and Colonel Tariq Saleh Al Sharif, Deputy Director General of the Civil Defense, as well as Colonel Ahmed bin Saif Muhairi.
Colonel Al Zaabi noted that investigation is still underway to determine the cause of the fire.
