Watani portal to develop ‘Natural Treasures’ archive
DUBAI - With the aim of keeping the Emirati tradition, culture and history alive, Watani, the UAE social development programme, yesterday launched its portal www.watani.tv which would build an archive called 'Natural Treasures'.

The innovative online portal was launched as part of the celebrations of the UAE's 36th National Day.
The portal aims to create an online archive of the country's heritage and lifestyle. It will be a platform for everyone living in or visiting the UAE to share the views and experiences.

Ahmed Obaid Al Mansoori, Coordinator General, Watani Programme, said: “The 'National Treasures' is an ambitious initiative but it is not a project that could be the responsibility of a single organisation. It is the responsibility of the people of the UAE. Recording and archiving the various elements of our heritage and national identity, which is our most precious treasure, should be the responsibility of each and every individual.
“Through 'National Treasure', we hope we would also provide the world an opportunity to understand our culture better. In a global community made possible by modern communication technology, this kind of outreach campaign gives the chance for a better appreciation of what the UAE and its people are all about.”
Al Mansoori said www.watani.tv had a dedicated space that celebrated the signing of the Union Treaty as the UAE. It would have dozens of testimonials of people who had attended, experienced or heard about the events related to that historical day.
“By launching 'National Treasures' on the occasion of the National Day, we hope to uphold the practices of good citizenship every day of the year,” Al Mansoori said.
www.watani.tv is designed to allow citizens and residents of the UAE to store and view the largest number of soundbites, video clips, images and other electronic materials to preserve the memories and experiences of the country and its people. Through this portal, everyone around the globe can watch, upload and share videos, images and audio files and comment about special historical or current events, traditional activities, old recipes, herbal remedies, tales and family stories.
