Residents can report crimes or lodge complaints about dud cheques within 24 hours.
Dubai - To use the station, a resident has to first register by using his/her Emirates ID or passports or even driving licences.
Reporting crimes; reporting lost and found items; traffic control and community services; and getting certificates and licences are among the main services you can avail of at the world's first round-the-clock smart police station in Dubai. The smart station was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Saturday at the City Walk.
A senior police official said the smart police station was constructed in three months and the cost to build it was lesser than an average police station in Dubai. The smart centre will provide 27 services and 33 sub-services.
Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razzouqi, director-general of smart services at the Dubai Police, said: "Our aim is to come closer to the people. Here, residents can complete their transactions without visiting police stations and can report suspicious behaviour.
"The centre does not require the presence of any police officials, and residents can carry out all their transactions on their own."
However, for the first two months, technicians and administrative staff will be stationed at the centre to help people to avail of the services.
RegistrationTo use the station, a resident has to first register by using his/her Emirates ID or passports or even driving licences. After that, they can just follow the instructions and avail of the services they require.
Reporting crimesResidents can report crimes or lodge complaints about dud cheques within 24 hours. A special criminal investigation team would follow-up on the complaint, after which it would be sent to the user. The user then signs it electronically to complete the procedure.
Captain Ibrahim Al Shaibani from the smart services department of the Dubai Police explained that in case of other crimes, central criminal investigation desk receives all complaints and then it is transferred to the specific police station for follow-ups. The complainant will get a transaction receipt and case number, and will be advised about the next step. If the person needs help or police patrols in case of an emergency, the case will be transferred to the police patrols.
Lost and foundIn lost and found cases, people who find something may register with the smart police using their phone number and email address. The police will take the details about the found item and registered information, and then the person can keep the found items in a place identified for the purpose.
Awareness and entertainmentAt the area marked for entertainment services, people can play games and the police will spread awareness to drivers about safe driving, on how to drive during different weather conditions, keeping safe distance and use of brakes. Those who do not have smartphones can use the police e-games at the centre.
At the smart police station, visitors can even go back virtually to the history to visit the first police station that was opened in1956, the first military uniform, police logo and much more.
Captain Al Shaibani said that the centre is targeted to meet the requirements of the Dubai government's smart plan for development. However, people can still go to the traditional police stations or use their mobile phones for doing the Dubai Police transactions.
The smart police station will reduce number of people who visit police stations and help the time and efforts of customers while keeping the privacy and confidentiality of them.
The smart services are available both in English and Arabic, he added.
