Several tourist and urban facilities in Khor Fakkan were inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, on Thursday.
One of the leisure spots he had officially opened was Shees Park, a 11,362sqm park with a 25-metre-high artificial waterfall. There is a playground, a barbecue area, 32 shaded seats, and an outdoor theatre that can accommodate up to 70 people.
During his visit to Khor Fakkan on Thursday morning, the Sharjah Ruler also launched an environmental initiative, which will see several kinds of trees planted on the mountains along the Sharjah-Khorfakkan Road.
To mark the start of the eco-programme, Sheikh Sultan planted the first seedlings of trees like Fig, Emirati Fig, Myrtle and Boswellia carteri. Each mountain along the road will be named after the trees that will be grown there, he said.
Visit to ancient community
Sheikh Sultan then stopped by the Najd Al Maqsar village, one of the most important ancient human communities in Wadi Washi, located within the historical city of Khorfakkan.

There, he unveiled the commemorative plaque announcing the official inauguration of the Village.

He explained that the restoration of this area is part of his endeavour to preserve the environment and revive archaeological and historical areas. The village comprises 13 old houses dating back to nearly a century, which the people then used as a haven from the flow of torrents.
Other projects
During the visit, the Ruler of Sharjah was briefed on other projects including the Shees Rest House on Khorfakkan Road. It will be implemented in three phases in the northern and southern parts. The rest will include 60 shops selling honey, fruits, and vegetables. There will also be nurseries and carpet outlets, as well as food trucks.

Sheikh Sultan was also provided details about the Najd Al Maqsar Oasis.
