US publishers to take part in Sharjah book fair
SHARJAH - Major publishing houses from over 39 countries from the Arab world, Europe, Asia and Americas will participate in the Sharjah World Book Fair to be held from December 5 to 14.

The book fair is an annual event organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information.
This year, for the first time, publishers from the USA would participate with a wide range of books, said Abdullah Al Owais, Director-General of the department, at a Press conference yesterday.

The fair would be inaugurated by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
More than 119 publishers from these countries would exhibit books on a wide range of subjects and categories such as electronics, Islam and children's books.
There would be separate sections for books in Arabic, English and other languages, and those for children.
The children's section would have educational, entertainment and cultural programmes on the sidelines of the book fair.
Symposia, lectures and poetry nights would be held in Sharjah Cultural Palace as part of the fair.
Dr Yousif Aydabi, general coordinator of the fair, said as part of his continuous efforts to support and encourage local writers and publishers for catering to the academic requirements of the country, Shaikh Dr Sultan was introducing 'The Sharjah Award for the UAE Book', to be selected by the organising committee of the fair, from this year.
Several prizes would be announced during the fair, including the 'Best Publisher' prize for the company whose contributions were found to be significant.
This year's 'Culture Personality Award' would be presented to Shaikha Bedour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Qanat Al Qasba and Deputy Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club.
